Official inflation was 31.5% in August 2026, the policy rate is 37%, and foreign direct investment rose 12% in 2025. Investors who plan for lira inflation, price in dollars where they can and keep strong working capital are better placed than those who assume stable costs.<\/div><p>Before you sign for a franchise branch, a running business or a trade project in T\u00fcrkiye, you need a clear picture of the economy it will operate in. Here are the numbers that matter in September 2026 and what they mean in practice.<\/p>\n<h2>The key numbers<\/h2>\n<ul><li><strong>Inflation:<\/strong> official annual inflation eased to <strong>31.51%<\/strong> in August 2026, the third straight monthly decline (TurkStat). The independent ENAG group puts it much higher, at 49%. Monthly inflation was 1.84%.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Interest rates:<\/strong> the central bank held its policy rate at <strong>37%<\/strong> on 10 September 2026, the fifth straight hold, citing energy-price risks. Its year-end inflation forecast is 28%.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Growth:<\/strong> the economy grew <strong>3.6%<\/strong> in 2025; the EBRD expects around 3% in 2026.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Foreign investment:<\/strong> T\u00fcrkiye attracted <strong>USD 13.1 billion<\/strong> of FDI in 2025, up 12.2%. Excluding real estate, FDI reached USD 10.7 billion, the highest in a decade. Wholesale and retail trade took the largest share (32%).<\/li><\/ul>\n<h2>What this means for your investment<\/h2>\n<p><strong>1. Costs will keep rising in lira.<\/strong> Rent, wages and food costs rise with inflation. A business plan built on today&#8217;s lira costs will look wrong within months. Ask for projections that model at least 25\u201330% annual cost growth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Pricing power matters more than volume.<\/strong> Concepts that can raise prices without losing customers (strong brands, essential services, premium positioning) protect margins better than cheap, volume-driven models.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Watch the currency of each contract.<\/strong> Many commercial leases and franchise fees are linked to the dollar or euro. Know which costs are in hard currency and which revenues are in lira.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Credit is expensive.<\/strong> With rates at 37%, borrowing to fund fit-out or working capital is costly. Most serious investors fund branches with equity and keep a cash buffer of several months of operating costs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. The direction is improving.<\/strong> Falling inflation, record-quality FDI and a large domestic market (about 85 million people) are why international investors keep coming.
