Marketing to Gulf Customers from Istanbul: What Turkish Brands Get Wrong

Translating your Turkish ads into Arabic is not a Gulf strategy. How Turkish brands can win Saudi and UAE customers with Arabic-first positioning, content and sales.

Marketing to Gulf Customers from Istanbul: What Turkish Brands Get Wrong

For Turkish brands

Short answerGulf customers buy from brands that feel made for them: Arabic-first messaging written by native speakers, Gulf-relevant proof, fast replies on WhatsApp, and clear prices in their currency. Direct translation of Turkish campaigns usually underperforms. Start with one market, one offer and one channel, measure cost per sale, then expand.

The trade corridor is real: UAE–Türkiye non-oil trade reached USD 45.2 billion in 2025, nearly triple 2022, and Saudi Arabia accounts for about half of the MENA franchise market. Yet many Turkish brands spend on Gulf advertising and get few sales. The reasons are usually the same.

Mistake 1: translating instead of writing

A literal Arabic translation of a Turkish ad reads as foreign. Gulf customers respond to native Arabic copy, Gulf references and a tone that respects them. Write the message in Arabic first, then adapt it to other languages.

Mistake 2: treating the Gulf as one market

Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait and Qatar differ in pricing, delivery expectations, regulation and culture. Pick one market to start, learn it, then expand.

Mistake 3: slow or unclear sales follow-up

Gulf customers expect fast, personal replies, often on WhatsApp. An ad that leads to a slow form or an unanswered chat wastes the budget.

Mistake 4: no local proof

Reviews, customers or partners from the same market build trust faster than any claim. Collect them from your first customers and show them clearly.

What works

  1. Arabic-first positioning: why your brand, for this customer, in this market.
  2. One offer: clear price in local currency, delivery and returns explained.
  3. One channel to start: usually Meta or TikTok ads to WhatsApp, or Google search for high-intent products.
  4. A trained responder: scripts, response time targets and follow-up.
  5. Weekly measurement: cost per lead, cost per sale, not only clicks.
